“Without Worship We Go About Miserable”

That’s what A.W. Tozer said, and he was right.

Tonight, I was in a bit of a grumbly place. Not terribly deep or dark…but shadowed.

I’m overwhelmed. There’s much to do in little time, and I’ve little help in the process. It’s what I’ve chosen and what I prefer…but it is nevertheless overwhelming.

And sometimes, I get to thinking, “Why are you holding out on me, God? What are you withholding? What’s it gonna take for the next step to be the big, right step?”

Usually, I turn on some totally lame TV show like The Hills and find sweet comfort in the general patheticism of the whole troupe.

But tonight, I turned on Sandra McCraken‘s In Feast or Fallow instead. And between the first line in “Petition” (below) and the last of “Faith’s Review and Expectation,” the earth shifted and balanced a bit, and my perspective narrowed to focus on One True Thing.

“Father, whate’er of earthly bliss
Thy sovereign will denies
Accepted at Thy throne of grace
Let this petition rise

Let the sweet hope that Thou art mine
My life and death attend
Thy presence through my journey shine
And crown my journey’s end

Give me a calm, a thankful heart
From every murmur free
The blessings of Thy grace impart
And make me live to Thee

You raise your hand to still the storms
That rage inside my head
Revive my heart with gratitude
Love, quell my doubt and dread

Give me a sure and rested soul
From every fear relieved
Thy spirit’s pow’r and presence mine
To ever comfort me”

Worship doesn’t change anything but me.

And mostly, that’s the only change that’s necessary.

Amy, I really appreciate this. thanks for being vulnerable, giving glimpses into your relationship with God….it’s that vulnerability that pulls people in, gathers them, and ultimately lifts them up…love your music, saw you in Decatur with JK and DW…great show, I was really amazed and blessed by all of you. Rock on.

This is beautiful! I knew I was really in a bad place spiritual when I had essentially stopped listening to music and worshiping. Once I started again it was like finding God all over again!

I can’t wait to get my copy of the CD now. Just ordered it for my birthday.
